Discover the charm of Kennel Cottage
Learn about the history of my unique cottage, what makes it a special place to stay, and the breathtaking beauty of Melvich. I invite you to explore the story behind your perfect holiday retreat.

My story: A cottage with character
Kennel Cottage is a former keeper's cottage that sits proudly at Bighouse, overlooking Melvich Bay, the River Halladale, and Bighouse Lodge - once a seat of the MacKay Clan. It is the perfect location to base your holiday from, with easy access to beaches, golf courses, walks, and much more. Alternatively, you can simply sit back and relax, taking in the scenery and night skies – yes, you may even be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from here too!

A comfortable home away from home
The cottage gets its name as it was the keepers cottage for one of the estate's shepherds, with the dog kennels closely positioned next to it. The cottage and kennels date back to the mid-1700s, with the cottage being altered in 2000 and more recently renovated in 2024. I want guests to experience relaxing, home-from-home comfort during their stay at Kennel Cottage, whether that's cosying up by the fire with your tipple of choice or exploring the local history and modern amenities.
If you can't live without your technology there's WIFI here too.

Explore the wonders of Melvich
My favourite things about the local area around Melvich that guests should know about include the incredible scenery right on your doorstep. Imagine seeing the Northern Lights from your window, enjoying leisurely strolls along the beautiful beach, or exploring the serene River Halladale. Melvich offers a wealth of activities and natural beauty for every taste, from water sports to wildlife spotting.
