FAQ's
Where is the cottage? – Kennel Cottage is at Bighouse, Melvich, Sutherland above the mouth of the River Halladale on the NC500.
How many does the cottage sleep? – 5 guests, twin/super king, king and a camp-bed.
What are check in/out times? – Check In after 3pm, Check Out at 10am. Out with these times must be prior arranged.
Is there a minimum stay? – Yes, there is a 3 night’s minimum stay.
Do you have a travel cot or highchair? – No, this is not catered for.
Do you accept pets? - No, as the cottage is on a working croft pets are not allowed.
Do you provide a starter pack? – Yes, tea/coffee/milk/bread/eggs/biscuits.
Are there shops nearby? – There is a well-stocked village shop in Melvich or supermarkets in Thurso 17 miles east.
Are towels and bedding provided? – Yes
What kitchen facilities are there? – There’s a dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer. Washing machine and tumble dryer available in utility room.
Are there utensils for cooking? – Yes, the kitchen is fully equipped.
How many bathrooms? – There is a main bathroom with large walk-in shower. An additional toilet and wash basin are available in the utility room. All are on the ground floor. None of the bedrooms are en-suite.
Do guests need to bring toilet rolls, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, toiletries like hand wash? – No, these are all provided as well as clothes detergent.
Is there Wi-Fi? – Yes, there is excellent Wi-Fi.
Do supermarkets deliver to Kennel Cottage? – Yes, Tesco and Asda deliver to the area.
Do guests need to clean the cottage before leaving or tasks like emptying the bins, washing up crockery and utensils? – Yes, guests are required to leave the property clean and tidy.
What type of heating is at the cottage? – There is central heating throughout the cottage. There’s a wood stove in the sitting room, sticks, firelighters and peats are provided. Logs can be purchased from petrol stations in Thurso.
Is smoking allowed? – Not within the cottage.
